Stoned stand-up comedians can be either hilarious or ridiculous. This article is dedicated to all those people who can make you laugh even harder than usual when they smoke weed before going on stage.
We have already mentioned a few cases of stand-ups showing poor performances under the influence. Unfortunately, not everybody can hold their weed.
This time, we want to show you that marijuana is actually good for comedies—you just have to know your limits.
If you have read our previous article, you already know that Doug Benson is an exceptional comedian who is almost always stoned and makes his celebrity guests smoke with him on his show Getting Doug With High. The comedian now works all over the world and speaks with potheads in their language.
The man's honesty and sincere love of pot are extremely redeeming.
The star of the sixties and seventies, George Carlin was arguably the first comedian to bring forward the fact that marijuana can indeed be funny. Almost all his performances were about weed, included weed characters, or you simply had to be baked to understand them. And all his shows were hilarious.
Yes, the man could be considered weird at the time, but he knew what he was talking about.
Lenny Bruce was a legendary comedian. While he enjoyed hard drugs, they were not the cause of the man's death. Bruce influenced generations of stand-ups. At the time, talks on marijuana were not so open, but the man could freely discuss how contemporary law students would become Congressmen one day and legalize weed. Maybe, Bruce had some issues, but they did not affect his brilliant performance and truthful marijuana jokes.
Although Bill Maher is not a stand-up comedian, the man is rather vocal about marijuana on his weekly HBO show Real Time. Maher brings up the topic of cannabis almost every week and adds a bit of humor to the subject.
Just as Benson, Maher is also sincere and open on the issue of weed. The show host can both laugh at and have a serious discussion about the situation, while many others would simply giggle and try to avoid the matter.
This comedian has been doing stand-up since he was sixteen. With years of experience come the skills that make his every sentence a brilliant joke. Todd Glass in a cannabis-friendly comedy star who has appeared on Doug Benson's shows a few times. These episodes are the best Benson ever had. Todd Glass also starred in many popular 90's sitcoms.
Hedberg was one of the best stoner comedians who had ever been on stage. Although in his sets he never mentioned cannabis directly, all his performances screamed marijuana and appealed to various types of audience.
His seemingly nonsense lines worked for everybody. Hedberg's unique approach influenced many comedians, but nobody can be as good as him.
Unfortunately, Hedberg died on March 30, 2005.
The list of good cannabis comedians is in no way limited by these six legends; other notable characters are Bill Hicks, Steven Pearl, Katt Williams, Ngaio Bealum, Ari Shaffir, and many others.
