For an experienced stoner, it is not difficult to spot another stoner in a crowd or a new company. We spend so much time with each other that it becomes like a brotherhood. It is fun to have a person who also likes weed next to you, so no wonder that every newbie also wants to have this “stoner radar.”
If you are a newb desperately looking for new friends, do not worry, you will make them. All you need is to be a bit more attentive to people around you and brave enough to start a conversation with them.
So, what are the distinct features of a stoner that tell you that they are one of us?
You cannot expect every stoner to look like a rastafarian with cannabis patterns all over the clothes. In fact, most of us prefer to wear absolutely neutral, casual outfits that do not show a single sign that we smoke weed. However, if a person does have some clothing with cannabis-friendly images, this might not be a coincidence.
If you know that a person does not smoke cigarettes but always has a lighter in their pocket anyway, there might be a reason for that. In most cases, this person may have a joint as well, so if you offer them to smoke a little herb together, it may be a start of a new friendship.
If you smoke usual cigarettes as well, you might ask strangers or your friends to borrow a lighter from time to time. So, the next time you do it, check the bottom. A true stoner often uses their lighter for tapping bowls. That is why you can see small black stains of resin on the bottom (they can also be sticky) or simply burnt spots.
Eye drops is a usual thing to have in a bag or a jockey box for a person who wears contacts. However, if you see no lenses but a whole package of bottles of Visine, Rohto or something like that, there can be a simple explanation for that. Lots of stoners use eye drops, and many of them make little of this fact and do not hide it.
Instead of asking for a lighter, you can first ask whether they smoke in general. If a person immediately reacts with a question “Smoke what?”, then you know there is a stoner in front of you. At some occasions, you may meet a vaper who smokes e-cigs, but then you can easily find this out by continuing the conversation. Finding new friends is worth risking!
Sober people speak with their own accents, but baked stoners are a special nation with their own slang and own accent. It is a very specific slow way of saying the words with a drawl. Once you hear it, you will never confuse it with anything else. If you record yourself while you are baked, we bet you will hear the same accent.
Those who often smoke weed want to do it in a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. That is why they like visiting special stoner spots or, if they smoke in a car, they try to make it as “authentic” as they can. And that is when stoner music comes in handy. If a person has a pack of Grateful Dead, 311, Bob Marley, and Snoop Dogg discs (or even homemade music mixes), then you may expect this person to be a stoner. However, modern stoners can have all their music on their iPods so that they can turn pretty much any place into a “temporary stoner cave.” Of course, they can just be posers, but that is mostly true about teenagers.
The capital of the Netherlands is like a sacred place for almost every stoner. If you ask a person where would they like to go on vacation and hear “Amsterdam” in reply, doubts aside―you are talking to a stoner. There is a belief that Dutch weed is a true “killer,” that is why visiting coffeeshops looks like a real exciting adventure. Well, if you are a newbie, you may not understand what is so exciting about this, but after you listen to hundreds of stories from someone who has already been there, you may also want to go there.
Well, this is obvious. People who are interested in marijuana and do not smoke are rare. If you start a conversation in a new company about some recent news associated with cannabis, and someone appears to know too much about the subject, there might be a question “why?”. However, it does not mean that if a person does not know a thing about marijuana properties and legalization laws, they are not a true stoner. Some just focus more on the process than on theory.
The weed smell can ruin all the conspiracy. Of course, if the smell is strong, there is often no need to even ask a person whether they are a stoner or not. However, the smell often comes in a very subtle way: it can stay in the hair, in fluffy clothes or inside the bag, especially women's bags.
Once you spot a stoner in a new company, try not to push or attack the person with your friendship. Some of them may hide their “stoner side” from others. Additionally, not every stoner wants to have new friends, and not every stoner is friendly. But in most cases, you can know it just by the way this person behaves.
However, if you want to find stoner friends, it is not so difficult. If you cannot spot other stoners, maybe someone can spot you.
